Armour was introduced to the Sri lanka Army was 42 years ago.In 1955 a decision was taken to introduce the decisive arm "ARMOUR" into the expanding Ceylon Army.The first ever cavalry regiment in the Ceylon Army,1st Reconnaissance Regiment Ceylon Armoured Crops came into existence on 10th october 1955 and commenced its embryonic stages under the able and dynamic guidance of Major D.S Attygalle,MVO.
